David H. Beckmann

David H. Beckmann, 87, of Hiawatha, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha.
He was born August 28, 1926, in Royersford, PA, the son of Karl and Martha “Ruth” Haynes Beckmann.
David served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1951.  He served aboard the USS Tolman, the USS Quick, and the USS General William Mitchell, stationed out of San Francisco.
He did sub-contracting work as an engineer, helping manufacturing businesses get set up with their production machinery.  In later years he worked at a restaurant in Iowa, baking pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls and other desserts.
David was a certified, ordained deacon in the RLDS Church in Lamoni, Iowa.
He married Jayne Huffnagle.  She died in 1979.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Beckmann and Phillip Beckmann, and a sister who died in childhood, Ruth Beckmann.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Beckmann and wife Deanna, and one grandson, Eric Beckmann.
Cremation is planned.  Family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.  Memorial services with military honors and burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5th at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Maple Heights Nursing Home, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.  A special message may be sent to the family at www.chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
