Henry Peterson

formerly of Whiting , KS

Henry J. Peterson, 93, formerly of Whiting, died Monday, August 25, 2014 at Medicalodges Jackson County in Holton.
 
He was born March 31, 1921 at Olsburg, the son of Albert and Ellen Hansen Peterson.  He graduated from Garrison High School and served in the Phillipines with the U.S. Army during World War II.  In 1959, after the Tuttle Creek Reservoir project claimed their property near Garrison, he and his family moved to Whiting.
 
Henry was a custodian at the Whiting schools until the Jackson Heights School District was formed.  He then drove a bus for Jackson Heights for 24 years.  He had also farmed and raised cattle.
 
He married Nadine Berry on August 23, 1953 at Garrison.  She died January 11, 1998.
 
Henry was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Ryden, and a daughter-in-law, Connie Peterson.
 
Survivors include four sons, Bryant Peterson, Holton, Craig Peterson, Horton, Bruce Peterson and wife Diana, Topeka, and Scott Peterson and wife Sheila, Ozawkie; a daughter, Christal Roudybush and husband Guy, Holton; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
 
Cremation is planned.  Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30th at the Carnahan Creek Cemetery, north of Manhattan.  A register book will be available to sign at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.  Memorials are suggested to the Henry Peterson Memorial Fund, to be used to help with expenses, sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 1034, Holton, KS  66436.  On-line condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
