Virginia L. Turner
Atchison, KS

Virginia L. Turner, 73, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 20, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Church with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant.  The body has been cremated, a private family interment will be held later at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  A parish rosary will be recited Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s Church or the National Kidney Foundation and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at

Virginia was born November 10, 1938 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Virginia Ryan Alberts.  She attended Sacred Heart and St. Benedict’s Elementary Schools, graduating from Mt. Saint Scholastica Academy.
She and William Dean Turner were united in marriage on November 15, 1958 in Atchison, Kansas.   Mr. Turner preceded her in death on February 13, 2009.
 Virginia was employed as a paraprofessional for Washington Elementary School and later as a school secretary for Bellevue Elementary School.  She then became employed with March Furniture Store as a bookkeeper for over twenty years, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of St. Benedict’s Church.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, going shopping, was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan J. (Kevin) Page, Cummings, KS, Julie A. (Dennis) Lowe, Atchison, KS, a son, Michael K. (Marcy) Turner, Atchison, KS, a sister, Nancy Alberts, Atchison, KS, two brothers, Charles “Buck” Alberts, Atchison, KS, Bill Alberts, Effingham, KS and nine grandchildren. 

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and a son who died shortly after birth.
