John Glassel Kenyon

John Glassel Kenyon, 96, Winchester, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at F.W. Houston Assisted Living at Winchester. He had been a resident there since 2008.

He was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Nortonville, at home of his parents, James & Grace Glassel Kenyon.  He graduated in 1937 from Nortonville High School.  

John began farming as a young boy with his father, James, on the family farm west of Nortonville.  After the great depression took the farm, he and his mother, Grace, moved to the Winchester farm, where he resided until the sale of the farm in 2008.  The farm consisted of row crop, raising cattle and hogs, and of course, raising farm fresh eggs.  John was a dedicated Kansas farmer for over 70 years.  

He was a member of the Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he served as a deacon for many years.

He married Wanda E. Wofford, Nov. 8, 1953, at Valley Falls. She died Nov. 4, 2004. A brother, Charles Kenyon, also preceded him in death.

Survivors are two sons, James Kenyon, Topeka, and Mark Kenyon, and his wife, Susie (Jamison), Cummings, and their sons, Jake and Jonathan; and a daughter, Pamela Hall, and her husband, Jerome, Clayton, North Carolina, and their children, Alexander, Rebekah, Joshua and Gabriel.  John was a great-grandfather to Silas and Charissa Clawson and to great-granddaughter Kenyon to be born January, 2016.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at the Nortonville Pleasant Grove Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Nortonville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
