Sylvester Dean Masqua

Sylvester "Cheeg-Wah" Dean Masqua, 65, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born on October 8, 1950 in Horton, Kansas the son of Sylvester and Geraldine Shopteese Masqua. Sylvester worked as a heavy equipment operator in his earlier years for the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas and McConnell Airforce Base in Wichita, Kansas. He became a health care provider in which he worked many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas and Drum Religion.

Survivors include two sons, Stacy Lee Masqua from Missouri and Dominic Masqua of Horton, Kansas; three daughters, Jessica Masqua, Chancy Masqua and Chelsea Masqua all of Horton, Kansas. Four sisters, Lynia "Cham" Eagle of Horton, Kansas, Lily Hall of Mayetta, Kansas, Deniece Masqua of Horton, Kansas and Gina Wahweotten of Mayetta, Kansas; Uncle Steve Cadue and Aunt Angie Cadue and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald Ray Masqua and Darrell R. Masqua, one son Christopher Masqua, two nephews Ronald John Allen Jr. and Timothy W. Wahweotten. Cheeg-Wah loved having company and visiting and while he was able he enjoyed dancing at the Pow-Wows.

Drum services will be at 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the Kennekuk Indian Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
