Neva F. Briles

Neva F. Briles, 90, of Hiawatha, died at her home Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

She was born on a farm near Troy, April 16, 1926, the only child of the late Archie and Velma Griffis Morris and had lived in the northeast Kansas area all of her life. She grew up in the Troy/Moray area where the family farmed and she attended country school there, prior to graduating from Troy High School with the class of 1944. In her early years, she helped out on the farm and was a dedicated wife and mother. Neva lived in the Troy/Moray area for a number of years before moving north of Sparks to live from 1964 until 1978, then moving to Hiawatha.

Neva attended the Sparks Baptist Church for many years. While living in Hiawatha, she grew more tomato plants than needed as she enjoyed sharing with folks in the community. She also enjoyed raising and tending her garden flowers.

She married William A. “Bill” Briles, July 5, 1994. They lived all of their married life in Hiawatha. He died July 16, 2004.

Survivors include a son Chris Clark, his friend Robyn Barnett of Wetmore; three grandchildren: Curtis Clark of Powhattan, Christy Clark of Horton, Justin Clark of Kansas City; and two great-grandsons: Nathan Clark, and Toby Clark.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Rev. Jerry Petering officiating. Interment will follow at the Burrell Family Cemetery, west of Troy.

Friends may call after 10 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services Saturday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Neva Briles Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
