Richard Francis Huninghake, 63, of Baileyville passed away at his home on Saturday, October 22, 2016 after a year and half battle with cancer.

Richard was born on January 5, 1953 in Axtell, the son of Paul and Mary Ann Stallbaumer Huninghake.

He graduated from Baileyville high School in 1971. After graduation, Richard attended Vo-tech in Atchison, after graduating from the Vo-tech; he went to work for Brey Motors in Sabetha running the wrecker for a year.

On August 25, 1973 he married Patricia (Patty) High at Sacred Heart church in Baileyville. They made their home in Atchison where he was employed at Rockwell. In 1977, Richard moved his family to Seneca where they lived for 8 years. Richard was employed at Mokin Pet Foods. In 1985, Richard and his family moved to Baileyville. He went to work for Hamm Rock Quarries where he ran the rock crusher.

On October 22, 1988 Richard had a dune buggy accident that left him paralyzed. He did not let that stop him. He went to “Beaver’s station and worked on everything from lawn mowers to 4-wheelers. Whenever anyone needed something fixed they would bring it to him; and if he could not fix it, then it could not be fixed. He enjoyed working on cars before his accident; after his accident he enjoyed putting model cars together. Richard took pride in restoring old guns, making them look new again. He enjoyed being with family and friends and going to the Casino.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patty of the home; a son, Donald Huninghake of Axtell; a daughter, Stacy Wessel of Baileyville; a step-son, Brian (April) High of Janesville, Wisconsin; his mother, Mary Ann Huninghake of Seneca; brothers, Larry (Judy) Huninghake of Salina, Lyle (Mary) Huninghake of Atchison, Galen (Susan) Huninghake of Baileyville; sisters, Lois Boeker of Bern and Teresa Kalin of Cook, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Veronica, Samantha, Trenton and Stephanie; his Aunt, Alma Sack of Denver, Colorado; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Huninghake.

Rosaries will be 2 & 7 PM on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the Sacred Heart Church in Baileyville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 25, 2106 at 10.30AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart‘s Catholic Cemetery in Baileyville.
