Floyd Eugene Watkins, 87, of Soldier, KS passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at his home.

Floyd had been cared for by his great-nephew, Rick Watkins and Kristina Spillman. He was born December 16, 1929 in Soldier, KS the son of Lawrence Elvin and Marguerite Frances (Tomlinson) Watkins.

Floyd graduated from Soldier High School in 1947. After high school, Floyd served in the United States Army. He was a lifelong member of the Soldier community. Floyd was a farmer and stockman. In his earlier years, he was a member of 4-H and was honored to show his steer at the American Royal in Kansas City. He was a member of the Holton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include 4 nephews, Richard Watkins of Soldier, KS, Ronald Watkins of Soldier, KS, Paul Watkins of Silver Lake, KS and Steven Watkins of Topeka, KS; 2 nieces, Sandra Hill of Oklahoma and Teresa Watkins of Pennsylvania and a sister-in-law, Marcia Watkins of Topeka, KS.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Larry Watkins and a sister-in-law, Susie Watkins.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Floyd will lie in state at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Soldier Cemetery.
