Daniel Jackson "Jack" Thornton

 Daniel Jackson “Jack” Thornton, 75, of Wathena, Kansas passed away on Thursday April 6th, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care of St. Joseph, MO after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack was born on February 10th, 1942 in Troy, Kansas to Cecil H. Thornton Sr. and Helen (Scott) Thornton. Jack married Donna Marie Euler on June 4th, 1960 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She survives of the home. He was a truck driver for Seitz Foods, an independent truck driver for Schneider National, and a member of the Teamsters Union. He retired in 1998.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kimberly. He was greatly saddened by the death of his daughter Kimberly, but the birth of his great-grandchildren gave newfound joy and vitality to his life. Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherished him and had bestowed him with the treasured nickname of “Poppa”.Additional survivors include: daughter Tamarah Pritchett (Marty) of Wathena, KS; six grandchildren Ashleigh Green (Matt) of Grain Valley, MO, Corey Bauman (Jordan) of Wathena, KS, Mardi Alysse Clark (Taylor) of Kansas City, KS, and Jacob, Cooper, and Austin. Four great-grandchildren include Presleigh Green, Teagan and Silas Bauman, and Charlotte Clark. Siblings include Marjorie Layman of Berryton, KS, Virginia Coffee of Merrill, OR, Betty Hunt (Henry) of St. Joseph, MO, Nancy Hartman of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Cecil H. Thornton Jr. (Helen) of Savannah, MO.

Thank you to Dr. AJ and his team at Mosaic Life Cancer Care, Dr. Kathryn Stueve and her staff, Dr. Francisco Aleman and his staff, the fantastic nurses, doctors, and staff in the ICU and Oncology Units at Mosaic Life Care, and many other healthcare professionals too numerous to list.Thank you to all friends and family who poured out their loving support to Jack and the family during this time. He was blessed to be surrounded by such great care and compassionate people.

The funeral service will take place Monday, April 10th, 2017 at 2:00pm at Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, KS. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, April 9th from 2:00pm- 4:00pm at the funeral home. Jack will be buried at Mount Olive Cemetery in Troy, KS. Memorial donations can be made to either the Troy Ambulance Fund or Wathena EMS.
