Margaret E. Heuertz, 77, Valley Falls, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at a Topeka hospital as a result of injuries from a single vehicle accident near Topeka.

She was born Feb. 12, 1940, at Valley Falls, the daughter of Elmer A. and Esther Gile Hosler. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1957.

Margaret was a homemaker. She had done residential cleaning and had worked as a custodian at USD 338 in Valley Falls. She had worked at Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Meriden and a member of the church choir. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of Jillann’s Fabric Junkies in Grantville and Kaw Valley Quilters Guild in Lawrence.

She married John J. Heuertz, June 4, 1966, at Valley Falls. She was preceded in death by a son, James Joseph Heuertz, July 8, 1977, and a brother, John Hosler, Aug. 16, 1997.

Survivors include her husband, John, of the home; two daughters, Susan Fritch, and Ann Harden, both of Meriden; son, Thomas (Sara) Heuertz, Bartlesville, OK; brother, Francis Hosler, Valley Falls; ten grandchildren, Kimberley, Jessica, Jacob, Danelle, Sara, Travis, T.C., Joshua, Jolee and Levi; and two great-grandchildren, Railynn and Jackson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Meriden. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Valley Falls at a later date. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Friday, at the church, followed by visitation.
