Alma Marie Higgins, 99, Highland, died May 1, 2017, at Highland Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland with Rev. Jerry Petering presiding.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Highland Ambulance Fund, the Highland Cemetery Association or the Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Alma was born April 19, 1918, in Highland, KS, to Harry Brunner  Bingman and Della Mae (Heikes) Bingman.  She was a graduate of Highland High School and Highland
Junior College.  She taught second grade for a brief time before becoming a full time
homemaker.

She married Murl Leslie Higgins on January 14, 1951.  He preceded her in death March 8, 2014.

Alma was stricken with polio at the age of nine and spent the rest of her life
more than overcoming the weakness in her legs.  She was a lifetime member of the
Highland United Methodist Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School Secretary for many years.  She also held a lifetime membership in the Highland Community College Alumni Association.

Survivors include two sons:  Mike (Barbara Ann) Higgins, Atchison, Jerry (Connie)
Higgins, Wathena, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harry Wilburn
Bingman.
