Jay W. Glynn, 88, of rural Axtell, KS, died May 13, 2017 at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital in Pawnee City, NE.

Visitation will be Monday, May 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home in Axtell.

A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 16 at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Father Barry Clayton will officiate. Kathy Buessing will play the organ. Music will include “Morning has Broken”, “You Are Mine”, “Seed, Scattered and Sown”, and “Though the Mountains May Fall”.

The pallbearers will be Jeremy Glynn, Josh Glynn, Eric Schmitz, Bob Mathewson, Rob Yunghans, and Merle Duryea.

Burial will be in St. Bridget Cemetery north of Axtell.

Jay was born June 29, 1928, on a farm north of Summerfield, KS, to Charles William "Bill" and Reva (Mitchell) Glynn. He attended Lonestar Country School. At the age of 14, he lived with his Grandpa and Grandma Mitchell to help his Grandpa with the farming. He graduated from high school in Seneca, KS.

On May 29, 1951, he married Rita Feldkamp. They lived on Grandpa and Grandma Mitchell's farm and raised their children, Leroy, David, Deanna, and Nancy.

Jay loved the farm, raising Hereford cattle, going to auctions, and restoring old cars and trucks. Jay and Rita took their cars and trucks to car shows, parades, and occasionally weddings. He restored the first car he bought, a 1930 Model A Ford. He was also very proud of restoring a REO Speedwagon. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed laughing with people.

We will miss his stories and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his son, Leroy; parents, Bill and Reva Glynn; sister, Margaret "Peggy" Glynn; and a grandson, Jason Oenbring.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Glynn, of the farm; son, David (Maxine) Glynn; daughters, Deanna Oenbring (special friend Mike Sheldon), and Nancy (Roger) Thiemann, Pawnee City, NE; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy and Josh Glynn, Eric Schmitz, Holly Wempe, and Megan Thiemann; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Leo (Doris) Glynn; and a sister, Helen (Jack) Transue.

A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of the Axtell-Landreth Funeral Home.
