Willis " Fibber" McGee

Willis Edward “Fibber” McGee, 93, of Holton, KS, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Holton Community Hospital. He was born March 8, 1924 in Holton, the son of Carl and Mary E. (Hug) McGee.

Fibber graduated from Mayetta High School in 1942, this year would have been his 75th class alumni. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army during WWII.

Fibber was a lifetime mechanic, owning and operating McGee Service in Mayetta, Holton and at his home. He was a security guard at Holton Government Missile Base (currently Jackson Heights schools), he worked for Holton Transport for 9 years, and as a mechanic at Skelly Station. Fibber also worked for City of Holton for 10 years as an operator for the power plant and for Holton Ready Mix for 5 years.

He had attended the Presbyterian Church in Holton, a member of American Legion Post #44, a member of V.F.W. Post #1367, and he was a volunteer firefighter for many years.

Fibber married Betty Lou Cox on October 26, 1945 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on September 16, 1999.

Survivors include a son, Michael McGee (Vickie) of Hoyt, KS; 2 daughters, Carolyn Jacobsen (Dale) of Circleville, KS and Jo Ingels (Steve) of Holton, KS; 9 grandchildren, Randy Jacobsen (Sandy), Shane Jacobsen, Chad Jacobsen (Jamie), Micki Austin, J.D. McGee (Yvonne), Jeff Ingels, Kevin Ingels (Jennifer), Jeremy Ingels (Darla) and Kyle Ingels (Katie); 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
