With family by his side, Russell Allen Meyer, passed from this life early Friday morning, June 16, 2017, at his home, west of Hiawatha, at the age of 65.

A Celebration of Russ’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Pastor Rich Lehmkuhl officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Monday where the family will meet from 6 until 7 that evening.

Known by family and friends as Russ, he was born February 16, 1952, at Hiawatha, one of three children born to Wayne and Mary Margaret Larson Meyer, and had lived nearly all of his life in Hiawatha.  He graduated from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1970, and attended Highland Junior College. Russ in his younger years, grew up helping to do hog chores on the farm.   He lived his lifelong passion…farming, working with his Dad and brother Roger.  Russ also owned and operated Jayhawk Tavern for a number of years.  That is how he started with karaoke where he was involved with area events and family functions.  Another of one his passions was camping.

Survivors include a brother Roger Meyer (Angie Orton) of Hiawatha; a sister Carol Mercurio (Frank) of Scott City; three nieces:  Gina Hendricks (Riley), Lisa Boksha (Matt), and Denise Meyer.  His caregiver and good friend is Elma Wallace.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents.
