Longtime Hiawatha insurance agent Lyle R. Brown, surrounded by family, passed from this life June 16, 2017, at Vintage Park in Louisburg, KS, at the age of 89.

Lyle was born January 27, 1928, at Garden City, Kansas, one of two children born to Lorin and Inez Davis Brown.   He moved to Wetmore as a young boy and graduated from Wetmore High School in 1946.  Lyle had many jobs over the years from throwing hay to a mechanic to a salesman.  He was drafted in the Korean War in 1950.  He went to OCS and was a 2nd lieutenant upon discharge in 1958.

Lyle owned and operated Brown Insurance Agency in Hiawatha for over fifty years before retiring.

Mr. Brown was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha; longtime member of Hiawatha County Club; a professional insurance organization of independent insurance agencies.  He enjoyed fishing, and the joy of having a family.  He was a former member of Kiwanis Club of Hiawatha.

Lyle moved to Hiawatha in 1965 and married Delores Wenger from Sabetha on Jan 13, 1968.  They enjoyed their life together golfing, boating, traveling and spending time at the lake house.  She survives.

Other survivors include their children:  Terri Kissinger Williams (Jimmy) of Carthage, NC, Roger Brown (Carla) of Wichita, KS, Jan Kissinger (Kris) of Clay Center, KS, Cindy Kissinger Farris  of  Indianapolis, IN , Mike Brown (Deb) of Hiawatha, Julie Kissinger Burg of Louisburg, KS, Mark Brown of Lockhart, TX, Megan Brown Hill (Andy) also of Louisburg; and 16 grandchildren.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; a son Robert; and a sister Loretta Wittenbach.

A Celebration of Lyle’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at First United Methodist Church in Hiawatha.  Reverend Jacob Cloud will officiate.  Private family internment will be at Sabetha Cemetery, with military honors a courtesy of Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday.  The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at the Church.
