Mary Elizabeth Huffman, 98, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka.

She was born Jan. 3, 1919, at Atchison, the daughter of James and Carrie Elizabeth Herbert Pike.

Mary worked for over 15 years at the Department of Revenue for the State of Kansas in Topeka. She had worked at the Gambles Store in Valley Falls.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls and St. Mary’s Altar Society.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 Veterans of Foreign Wars and several bridge clubs, all in Valley Falls.

She married Herbert W. Huffman Jr., Nov. 18, 1939, at Atchison. They divorced.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Huffman, in infancy; her daughter, Susan Moore; five brothers, William, Roy, Virgil, Leo and Stewart Pike; and three sisters, Margaret Rice, and Sarah and Edna Pike.

Survivors include her son, Philip Huffman, Valley Falls; two grandchildren, Jodi (Chris) Starr and Danny (Audra) Moore; and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Friday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls, followed by a service by the Ladies Auxiliary of Grahem-Herbers Post 3084 V.F.W. and a visitation.
