Vernon " Vern" Jarboe
Topeka , KS

Vernon A. “Vern” Jarboe, 86, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at a local hospital.

He was born December 17, 1930 in Iuka, KS, the son of James R. and Charity M. (Geer) Jarboe. He was a graduate of Sawyer High School and attended Pratt Junior College and Washburn University.

Mr. Jarboe served as President of Whelan’s Lumber and later for Ray Anderson Company, retiring in 1996.

He served on the boards of directors for Jayhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Topeka Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Greater Topeka, American Red Cross, Capper Foundation, Y.M.C.A. of Topeka, Junior Achievement, and Topeka Downtown Rotary.

Vernon married Laurine Hittle on June 4, 1950 in Jetmore, KS. She survives. Other survivors include children, Vernon L. (Deborah) Jarboe, Elaine (Larry) Gill, all of Topeka, Carl (Mariann) Jarboe, Medicine Lodge; grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Paxson, Kimberley (Jeff) Fund, Sonia (Joe) Schultz, Jessica (Eric) Johnson, Tyler (Jennifer Kongs) Gill, Calla (Justin) Edwards; great-grandchildren, Cassie, Nate, Gabe, Sophia, and Victoria. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Carter; and brothers, Albert, James and Don.

Vernon enjoyed spending time with family, especially grandchildren, woodworking, hunting, snow skiing and spending time outdoors.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd, Topeka, KS 66611. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jayhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts or Countryside United Methodist Church.
