Gladys E. Koelzer, 82, of Seneca, died on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Life Care Center of Seneca.

Gladys Emma was born on February 26, 1935 to Raphael Thomas and Florence Ann Tanking Gudenkauf southwest of Corning, Kansas.  She attended Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School and High; graduating from High School, May 1953.  As a young woman, she worked for Merchants National Bank in Topeka as a bookkeeper until 1959.

On February 7, 1959, she married Melvin Henry Koelzer at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed in the Corning community until Melvin’s death on January 1,2001.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Corning, St. Patrick’s Altar Society and St Patrick’s Church Choir, until 2001 when she moved to Seneca after her husband’s death.  She was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.  She quilted with both church Altar Societies.  She enjoyed word search, scrabble, embroidery,  playing cards and BINGO.  She took immense pleasure with the time she spent with her four grandsons.

Besides her husband of 42 years, she was preceded in death by her Father on June 18, 1981 and her Mother on December 16, 2013.

She is survived by her twin children, Jane (Phil) Halling of Lancaster and Gerald (Irene) Koelzer of Corning; five sisters, Mary Grace (Hank) Elder of Overland Park, Marilyn (Dave) Carlson of Seneca, Elsie (Glenn) Stueve of Hiawatha, Phyllis (Cletus)  Broxterman of Baileyville and Joyce (Gene) Klingele of Basehor; four grandsons, Allen (April) Halling, Todd (Jenny) Halling, Greg Koelzer and Jared Koelzer; and three great-grandchildren, Noah Ryker and Brooke.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Church Cemetery.

Memorials are for Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
