Shirley Weaver

Shirley I. Weaver, age 97, formerly of the Hamlin-Hiawatha area, died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation Center, Beatrice, Nebraska.

Shirley Ione Cloud was born December 24, 1919 southwest of Hamlin, Kansas to Frank and Ione (Berkley) Cloud.  She was raised northwest of Hamlin and attended Pleasant Hill Grade School and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1937.  Shirley worked in the Brown County Courthouse before she married Glenn E. Weaver on December 8, 1943 at her parents’ home. 

Glenn and Shirley lived on a farm north of Hamlin and later east of Hamlin until they retired to Hiawatha in 1990.  Shirley enjoyed helping Glenn on the farm and raising a garden.  She attended Hamlin Baptist Church most of her life where she was a member.  Glenn died February 7, 2008 after 64 years of marriage.  Shirley continued to live in Hiawatha until her health changed and she moved to Beatrice, Nebraska in 2012 to be near family.

She is survived by 3 children:  Janet (Chris) Pasker of Claremont, California; Jack (Connie) Weaver of Wheaton, Illinois; Rita (Dave) Smith of Beatrice, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law Ann and Jim Woods of Long Beach, California. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, son Randy, and her parents.

A Celebration of Shirley’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.  Shane Spangler will officiate with burial at Hamlin Cemetery.

Friends may call after 12 noon Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet from 6 until 8 that evening.
