Russell " Smoke" Davis

Russell J. “Smoke” Davis, of Highland, died late Sunday evening, August 6, 2017, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital at the age of 76.

‘Smoke’ as he was known by family and friends, was born at Sparks, July 29, 1941, one of nine children born to John and Margie Mooney Davis and had lived in the Sparks/Highland area his entire life.  He grew up at Sparks where he attended school.  Smoke moved to Highland to Kings’ Court Apartments over 15 years ago to make his home.  He worked at Ernie’s in Highland as a waiter for a number of years.

Russell was a member of Sparks Baptist Church.  He liked to garden, fish, and enjoyed being outside.  He was a kind gentle man that would give you the shirt off his back, and never met a stranger.  In recent years, you would see Smoke riding his John Deere riding lawn tractor all over Highland.

Survivors include three brothers:  Larry of Deluth, Roy of Sparks, Toney of Pleasanton; five sisters:  Shirley Ramsey of Kansas City, LaVerta Weis of Highland, Sally Williams of Cleveland, OH, Diann Heimerman of Sparks, Brenda Leavey of Kansas City, KS; with numerous, numerous, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 10 a.m. Thursday where the family will visit from 5 until 7 Thursday evening.  Cremation will follow visitation with family inurnment at Iowa Point Cemetery.
