Mary Ann Huninghake

Mary Ann Huninghake, 92, of Seneca, died on September 3, 2017 at Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca.

She was born on April 26, 1925 on a farm northwest of St. Benedict, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Anna M. Engelken Stallbaumer. She grew up in the St. Benedict community and attended St. Mary’s School in St. Benedict, graduating from High School in 1942. As a young woman, she worked for several businesses in Seneca.

On February 19, 1947, she married Paul A. Huninghake at St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict. In 1981, she began employment at Crestview Care Home in Seneca. In 1982, she moved off the farm to Seneca. In January of 1999, she retired from Crestview. She also volunteered for Sts. Peter and Paul Mission Center for several years.

She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and the prayer group at the church. She enjoyed doing handy-work, quilting, embroidery, and taking care of her flowers around her home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Huninghake on March 13, 1981; a son, Richard F. Huninghake on October 22, 2016; a brother-in-law, Alan Boehmer on February 2, 2007; a granddaughter, Robin Huninghake on April 22, 1991; a great-great granddaughter, Madison Huninghake on May 1, 2017; by eight brothers, Herman, Norbert, Melvin, Eugene, Victor, Sylvester, Walter and Paul Stallbaumer; and five sisters, Irene Fangman, Marcella Rottinghaus, Doris Stallbaumer, Edna Sack and Florence Fangman.

She is survived by her three sons, Larry (Judy) Huninghake of Salina, Lyle (Mary) Huninghake of Atchison, Galen (Susan) Huninghake of Baileyville; daughters, Lois Boehmer of Bern and Teresa Kalin of Cook, Nebraska; a sister, Alma Sack of Denver, Colorado; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Friday, September 8, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.   Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials can be given in Mary Ann’s memory to Sts. Peter and Paul Church and/or Sacred Heart Cemetery, sent in care of the family.
