Barbara Bowden, 71, of Hoyt, KS passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 at The Pines in Holton. She was born January 12, 1946 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Milton and Ruth (Sconce) Newlun.

Barbara graduated from Hoyt High School. She was a life-long member of the Hoyt community. Barbara was a homemaker and housewife.

She was a member of the Hoyt United Methodist Church.

Barbara married Virgil Bowden on April 23, 1966 in Hoyt. He survives of the home. Other survivors include 2 sons, Tod Bowden (Lisa) and Sean Bowden (Angela) both of Hoyt, KS; a daughter, Paula Beasterfield (Steven) of Mayetta, KS; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Hoyt United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Hoyt Cemetery. She will lie in state at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton where the family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
