Robert (Bob) Anthony Schecher, 81, of Everest, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017, in a farming-related accident at an industrial plant in Craig, Missouri.

He was born on July 11, 1936, to Anthony (Tony) and Ernestine Peden Schecher.

Bob graduated from Horton High School in 1955. He was a bulldozer operator, farmer, and raised beef cattle on a farm in Everest. Bob took great pride in continuously improving the quality of his livestock. He was a long-term member of the American Hereford, Angus and Chianinia Associations. Bob served in the US Army National Guard, Battery B, for nine years. He was the President for the Wolf River Watershed for many years. He oversaw construction of several area watershed dams.

Bob was an avid hunter, marksman, and wildlife conservation enthusiast. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Purcell. Bob loved being with friends and family. He greatly loved his grandchildren and he received their love in return.

Survivors include his wife, Macrina (Mickey) Schecher of the home, and two daughters, Patti (David) Lehew of Phoenix, Arizona, and Margo (Alan) Ellerman of Effingham, Kansas, and four stepchildren, Mike (Belinda) Kneib, Michele Drennen, Joe (Kara) Kneib, and Gina (Vince) Grier, one brother, Chuck (Bernetta) Schecher of Horton, Kansas, and one sister, Toni Andrews of Everest, Kansas, four grandchildren, Tara Ellerman, and Tyler, Austin, Brianna Lehew, nine step-grandchildren, Bethanie Bassett, Callan and Bryson Kneib, Ridge and Ryley Drennen, and Laney, Lexey, and Lindey Kneib, and Archer Grier.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Schecher, and two sisters, Barbara McClaskey and Mary Ann Bontrager, and a son Robert Anthony Schecher.

A Funeral Mass will be at 6:30pm, on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Purcell, Kansas. A rosary will be recited at 6:00pm preceding the Funeral Mass at the church. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
