Alice Beethe

Alice Regina Beethe was one of eight children born to Herman and Regina (Woltemath) Kettelhake on March 23, 1924 at the family home north west of Steinauer, NE.  She was baptized on April 13, 1924 by Rev. Iddo Heinicke and confirmed March 21, 1937 by Rev. Enno Schuelke at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Alice attended District # 17 rural school and St. Peter’s Parochial School through the eighth grade.  She helped her parents at home until her marriage to Lawrence Beethe on Nov. 2, 1949 by Rev. Wm Nau at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.  They established their home on his farm several miles north west of Elk Creek.  To this union were born five sons, Howard, Wayne, Ivan, Lavon and Dennis.  Lawrence passed away Jan. 17, 1993 and Wayne, June 6, 1963.

In her youth, Alice was a member of St. Peter’s Walther League and after her marriage, she taught Sunday School and was a member of Ladies Aid and AAL and helped with many benefits over the years.  She also volunteered at nursing homes and took church services to shut-ins.   Alice especially loved gardening and family and quilting.  Her gift was quilting and over the years Alice donated hundreds of quilts to the Orphan Grain Train and other various organizations.  Each family member enjoys several quilts specially made for them to keep her memory close.

Alice passed away at Bryan Health in Lincoln, on September 8, 2017 at the age of 93 years.               
She is survived by her sons, Howard Beethe and wife Ruth of Tecumseh, Ivan Beethe and wife Irene      of Wausau, WI, Lavon Beethe and wife Dar of Elk Creek and Dennis Beethe and wife Nadine of Elk Creek, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys and Melvin Doerr of Papillion, Mildred Kettelhake of Steinauer, Mildred Luedders of Pawnee City, Glenn Beethe and Lloyd Beethe of Tecumseh and many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence, son, Wayne, brothers, Edwin, Arnold and Wilber and infant brother Arthur and sisters, Alma Rinne and infant sister, Paula.    

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska, with Rev. Robert Schermbeck officiating.

Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday, September 11, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may go the family’s choice.

Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska.
