Jennifer R. Spicer, 58, of rural Hiawatha, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, September 9, 2017, shortly after arrival at Hiawatha Community Hospital.

A Celebration of Jennifer’s life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 14, at the Christian Center in Hiawatha. Tony French will officiate. Cremation will follow services with inurnment at a later date at Claytonville Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to help with funeral expenses, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.

Jennifer was born at St. Joseph, MO, August 28, 1959, and was adopted by Roger and Beverly Jeffery Lowe when she was 8 or 9 years old and had lived in the Hiawatha area nearly all of her life. She grew up here where she attended Hiawatha schools .

Through the years, Jennifer attended the Christian Center in Hiawatha.

She married John Petersen in 1977 and was married 17 years, making their home at Tilden, NE, Hanover, PA, and Hiawatha, KS before divorcing. She later married Jim Spicer in 1996 and made their home south of town for 20 years. He survives.

Also surviving are her children Justin (Tanya) of Camden, SC, Jeff (Kristene) of Robinson, James (Sydney) of Hiawatha; Julie Petersen of Topeka; her mother Beverly & Tom Stone of Hiawatha; adopted siblings: Rod Lowe, Rob Lowe, Candy Johansen, Ruth Harmon, Kevin Stone, Donnie Stone, Marcy Hunning, Tiffany Crain, Cassie Dingledine; 13 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren. Her step children include Jamie Spicer and Elizabeth “Beth” Spicer. Her biological siblings include: Sheila Elbert, Greg McDowell, Robert Jeffers, Kim Brown, Jeanne Torrey, Georgia Lane, Rose Myers, and Diana Hall.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her biological mother Marilyn Dawson, step-son Billie Spicer, granddaughter Tyra White, and brother Toby Stone.
