Marvin Lee Ledbetter, 84, Lawrence, formerly of Winchester, died Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Bridge Haven care center in Lawrence.

He was born June 15, 1933 in Horton, the son of Samuel Gordon and Alfreda Nina Denton Ledbetter. He was a 1951 graduate of Highland High School and attended Highland Community College.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. He graduated and earned a degree in teaching from Kansas State Teacher’s College in 1962.

He taught school several years in rural Doniphan County, Winchester and at Patton Junior High School, Ft. Leavenworth. He worked for Eco Water Systems, selling and installing water softeners and filter systems for 35 years, retiring in 2000. Marvin served on the Winchester City Council for many years and also served several terms as Mayor.

He was married to Lillie Evelyn Smith on April 4, 1954 at Highland, she survives at the home in Lawrence. Survivors include three sons, Wayne (Lynn) Ledbetter, Perry, Calvin (Karen) Ledbetter, Lawrence, Brian (Teressa) Ledbetter, South Bend, IN, seven grandchildren, Mark Ledbetter, Aaron Ledbetter, Dana Bigham, Curtis Ledbetter, Tara Sayler, Emma Ledbetter, Lillie Ledbetter, seven great-grandchildren, Ashton Ledbetter, Drew Ledbetter, Tori Sayler, Megan Sayler, Jessica Sayler, Jake Sayler and Laney Ledbetter. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday at Winchester United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery, Winchester. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.
