Mary E Macke, 94, of Seneca, KS. died September 10, 2017 at Life Care Center of Seneca, KS. She became a resident on December 3 rd, 2014 after suffering a stroke.

Mary was born on April 13, 1923, the daughter of Henry J and Josephine Waller Nordhus. When her mother died on May 14, 1930 Mary was just seven years old. Her oldest sister Margaret then helped care for the family. Mary graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul High School in 1941. She moved to Kansas City working for John Taylor Department Store as a bookkeeper while rooming with her sister Rita.

On September 11, 1945, she married Henry J Macke at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. They lived and farmed east of Baileyville until they moved to Seneca in November of 1994. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Seneca. Henry preceded her in death on November 23, 2003.

She was a past member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society in Baileyville. Mary became a member of Sts. Peter and Paul in 1995. Mary enjoyed gardening, bingo and trips to the casino. She also enjoyed traveling with her family. Ceramics and quilting were her favorite past-times, becoming a member of Sts. Peter and Paul quilters group. She taught her granddaughters wheat weaving and crafts, and delighted in recent years with visits from her great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Henry, parents, and an infant sister, Celestine, she was preceded in death by her only son, James H Macke on April 17, 2017: sisters Margaret Stallbaumer, Rita Keith, Theresa Heiman; and a brother Sylvester (Pat) Nordhus.

Survivors are her five daughters, Donna Macke of Leavenworth, Jane Macke of Overland Park, Joyce Macke of Aurora, Colorado, Mary Beth (Kenneth) Feldkamp of Centralia and Vicki (Greg) Hulsing of Seneca; one brother, John Nordhus, of Seneca. Grandchildren Ryan (Gisselle Rivera, fiancé) Feldkamp, Robyn Feldkamp, Renee (Chris) Meyn, Rachel (Matt) Bruna, Rosanna (Josh) Winkler, Coila (Jake)Farrell, Jessica (Adam)Kramer and twelve great-grandchildren and a future step great-granddaughter.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 & 7 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.   Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials can be given in Mary’s memory to Sacred Heart Cemetery, and sent in care of the family.
