Lorin B. Schmidt, 82, of Tecumseh, passed away October 12, 2017.

Lorin Schmidt was born to John and Grace (Buhr)Schmidt on November 19, 1934 near Adams, Nebraska.  Lorin attended country school near Virginia until the third grade.  He then attended the Virginia Public Schools until the 7th grade. He also attended Lewiston Public Schools from 7-12 grade where graduated in 1953. In his senior year Lorin enlisted into the Army National Guard #134 Company C.  He remained in this unit for six years.  He worked as a mechanic until he started farming and dairying with his in-laws Andy and Frances Anderson until their deaths.  Lorin continued to farm and dairy until until 2006. He also worked as a mechanic for Brinkman Brothers for 13 years in his later years before retirement.   

Lorin was united in marriage to Nancy Anderson on April 14, 1956 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church near Beatrice.  This union was blessed with three daughters, Debra, Vickie and Cindy.   Lorin and Nancy made their home southwest of Tecumseh. 

In his retirement Lorin gallantly took care of his wife of 57 years after she suffered a stroke in 2005 until her death in 2013.  He also enjoyed wood working, fishing, jig saw puzzles, going to coffee at the Senior Center and spending time with his family.

Lorin is survived by his daughters, Debra Baehr and husband Jack of Tecumseh, Vickie Kress and husband Todd of Sterling and Cindy Sohnholz and husband Neil of Johnson, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, brother, Marvin Schmidt and wife Jean of Sheffield, England and Richard Schmidt and wife Meleese of Fairmont, brother-in-law Richard Anderson and wife Lorene of Checotah, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace, wife Nancy, and sister Esther Ward and her husband Bill.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Pastor Rob Clark officiating.

Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Monday, October 16, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5- 7 p.m.

Memorials may go to the family’s choice.

Interment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska, with full military honors by the Tracy-Bates American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek.
