Marvin " Barney" Tabbert

Marvin Frederick “Barney” Tabbert, 84, of  Lawrence, formerly of rural Jefferson County, died Monday, October 16, 2017 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 24, 1932 in Oskaloosa, the son of  Louie F. and Florence “Alma” Dick Tabbert. He was a 1950 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving two years during the Korean war. “Barney” was a cattleman, livestock buyer and trader all his life in the Oskaloosa and Perry areas, retiring, well, really never. He was a member of Perry American Legion Post #142, the Fraternal of Eagles Aerie#309 in Lawrence and was a former member of the Kansas Livestock Association. He enjoyed his work, regularly attending Livestock Sales in a large radius of miles from his home base of operations in rural Oskaloosa, including  Overbrook, Holton, St. Marys, Marysville, Manhattan and others.  

Barney was married to M. “Coleen” Estes Parris on March 6, 1978 in Miami, OK, Coleen preceded him in death on March 20, 2015.

He is survived by one daughter, Tammy Paris Marsh and husband Jim, Oskaloosa, one son, J. Aaron Wagner, Perry, two brothers, Eugene Tabbert, Perry, Don Tabbert, Topeka, two sisters, Roberta Henley, Topeka, Mary Sutter, Raleigh, N.C., four grandchildren, Paris Olivia Marsh, Cooper Frederick “Coop” Marsh, Blake Wagner, Tucker Wagner and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews who loved and admired him. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rheinetta Doty.

 Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday at the Funeral Home.
