Barbara J. Edie, 84, of Highland, Kansas, died Tuesday morning, October 31, 2017, at Highland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where she had lived for seven years.

Barb was born August 7, 1933, in Highland, the daughter of Wayne and Margaret King Collins. Barb was a member of the White Cloud Christian Church, later transferred to Highland Christian Church. She also was a member of the Pollyanna Club; worked with the CWF of the Church; volunteered at the Highland food pantry. She spent most of her working life at the Highland nursing home where she was a certified nurse aide (CNA), later became a certified medical aide (CMA). Barb loved to be outside in her swing and being with family and friends.

She married Joseph E. Edie, May 19, 1951, at her grandparents’ home, Claude and Carrie Collins of Sparks. Joe & Barb made their home in White Cloud until 1972 when they moved to Highland.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 66 years Joe of the home; sons Larry (Sharon) Edie of Highland, Robert (Jackie) Edie of Highland, daughter Charlene (Jim) Twombly of White Cloud; seven brothers: Lynn Collins of St. Joseph, MO, Dan Collins of Highland, Ed Collins of Troy, Bill Collins of Hiawatha, Rick Collins of Wathena, Randy Collins of Hiawatha, Tim Collins of Highland; five sisters: Pat Pfaffly of Kansas City, MO, Margaret Brassfield of Hiawatha, Sue Hall of Powhattan, Kathy Campbell of Troy, Anita Rounds of Lexington, MO; ten grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, with numerous nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; son Mike Edie; sister Jan Stonebarger; three brothers: David Collins, Denny Collins, and Butch Collins.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, at the Community of Christ Church of Fanning, with Jerry Petering officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland after 10 a.m. Thursday and where the family will meet that evening from 6 until 8.
