Mabel L. ‘Boots’ Moore, 90, of Atchison, KS, passed away, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Diversicare of St. Joseph, MO.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with Pastor Darrell Cox, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to help with final expenses. Mabel Louise McConnaughey was born March 4, 1927 in Atchison, the daughter of James and Mabel (Mershon) McConnaughey. Mabel and Charles E. Moore were married on July 24, 1948 in Troy, KS. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Charles passed away on January 24, 2012. Mabel was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara “Bobbi” Moore Lopez; two granddaughters, Angela Vandeloo and Stephanie McNeely; three brothers; and one sister.

From 1951-1970, Mabel and Charles lived in Omaha, NE, where Mabel worked in a manufacturing plant building motor scooters. They moved to Atchison in 1970 and Mabel was one of the first employees at the Atchison McDonalds when it opened. Mabel went to work as a cook at ‘The Roost’ at Benedictine College from 1971 to 1980; worked at Atchison Child Care until 1987 when she then went to work for USD 409 Atchison Public Schools as a cook, working for several years before she retired from USD 409. Mabel was a member of the Atchison VFW Auxiliary and the Church Of The Nazarene.

Survivors include a son, Todd (Mayla) Moore, Overbrook, OK; a daughter, Beverly (James) McNeely, Atchison; eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons.
