Joy Fischer

Alice Joy Fischer, 78, of Sabetha, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Home. She was born on December 19, 1938 in Waverly, KS, the daughter of Raymond and Ina (Merle) Williams.

Joy graduated from Waverly High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Kansas State University in 1959.  She taught home economics in Morrowville, KS for 3 years.  After moving to Sabetha in 1962, she did substitute teaching and was a full time homemaker.  In 1973, she and Don purchased Sunny Fabrics in Sabetha.  Joy owned and managed the fabric store for eleven years.  She completed a master’s degree in special education and taught in the Horton and Sabetha school districts.  Joy became a Christian when she was immersed into Christ in 1964.  She was a member of the Sabetha Church of Christ and spent many years teaching Bible classes and women’s classes.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves her husband of 58 years, Don Fischer.  They were married on June 7, 1959 in Waverly, KS. Other survivors include their children, Kim (Lyle) of DeSoto, KS, and Terry (Kelli) of Edmond, OK; and her brother, Jerry (Marilyn) Williams of Dodge City, KS.  One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren: Mackenzie Lancaster, Logan Lancaster, Pryce (Paige) Fischer and Dia Fischer.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sabetha Church of Christ in Sabetha, KS. Visitation will be Friday, November 17, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Interment will be made at 3:30 p.m. at the Waverly Cemetery in Waverly, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sabetha Church of Christ, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, KS 66534.
