Paul Albert Puvogel, 94, of Horton, KS died Friday morning, November 17, 2017 at the Sabetha Community Hospital.  He had currently been a resident at the Mission Village Living Center since February of this year.

Paul was born January 18, 1923 the son of Richard and Ida Brandt Puvogel.  Paul grew up in Hiawatha and attended a Hiawatha country school.  Paul joined the United States Army and served during WWII In the 99th Infantry from 1943 to 1945. During his working career he worked as a Carpenter and later drove a school bus for the Horton school district.  He enjoyed watching sports, which included the Kansas City Royals and KU Basketball and Football.

He was married to Georgia Taylor and to this union two children, Shelly and Rick were born.  She preceded him in death in 1961. Later he married Arlene Jahn, they later divorced.  He married Melba Hedrick Quaife. She passed away in 1975. He married Lois Shivers in 1980.  They had made Horton their home until her passing May 21, 2017. 

Paul is survived by his children, Rick and wife Alma Puvogel of Orange, CA and Shelly and husband Jeri Shaefer of Hiawatha, KS, a brother, Raymond and wife Reta Puvogel of Hiawatha, KS, 7 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Herman Puvogel, twin sister, Pauline Spellmeier, and sisters, Marguerite Covert, Louise Rooney, and Doris Yingling.

Funeral Services are planned for 11 AM, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, KS.    Pastor Darrell Treat will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, KS.  Military Services provided by Brown County Honor Guard will follow graveside services.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney-Mortuary.  The family will receive friends from 10a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to services on Tuesday.  Memorials are suggested in his name and may be sent in care of the mortuary 909 Central Ave, Horton, KS  66439.  Online condolences may be made to www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
