Lozene M. Aarstad

Lozene M. Aarstad, 90, of rural Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas. Lozene was born on October 3, 1927 in Frankfort, Kansas the daughter of Hugh Michael and Verda Wilson Massey. She was a homemaker and worked for the Green Thumb Program. On October 30, 1949 she married the love of her life, Lars L. Aarstad, at Zion Lutheran Church in Everest, Kansas. Lozene and Lars had three sons, Michael, Wayne and Bruce. Upon the death of Lars uncle, Lozene and Lars were able to acquire the land he had farmed for many years and they lived there for over 60 years. In December of 2012 they moved to the Apostolic Christian Home due to health issues. Lozene was able to travel to Norway four times and these trips were highlights of their life together. One of the greatest joys in Lozene’s life were his grandchildren. She enjoyed being a farm wife, was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for all the farm help and especially for her grandchildren. Lozene was a member of the Everest Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include a son, Michael (Dixie) of Andover, Kansas; six grandchildren, Richmond Aarstad of Meriden, Amy Hankins of Andover, Kari Torrez of Topeka, Matt (McKenzie) Aarstad of Wichita, Justin Aarstad and Mindy (Brandin) Erickson both of St. Joseph, Mo.; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Maryln Wenger of Powhattan, Kansas. Lozene experienced much grief when Lars passed away on April 24, 2014, two of their sons passed away, Bruce in 2003 and Wayne in 2011, as well as granddaughter, Krystal in 2004, a brother, Floyd Massey and a sister, Karen Madsen. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery north of Everest, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
