Sharon K. (McCorkle) Clelland

Sharon Kay (McCorkle) Clelland, 69, of Chanute, KS passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, KS.

She was born on July 21, 1948 in Topeka, KS to Scott and Roma (Norton) McCorkle. Sharon graduated from Sabetha High School, received her Associate’s Degree from Highland Community College, and Bachelor’s Degree from Peru State with honors. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree at Emporia State University. Sharon was a teacher for ANW Special Education Cooperative for 27 years, teaching gifted students in an eight district area. She enjoyed developing projects to help students pursue their intellectual interest including coaching the Scholar’s Bowl. She retired in 2012.

Sharon was a strong and independent person who loved to travel. Remembered for many road trips with her mother. She had several hobbies including antique shopping, and rock hunting with her friends and family. She has many geode and crystal treasures. For years, she was the county 4-H geology leader, and even judged at the Kansas State Fair.

She was preceded in death by her father, Scott McCorkle; brothers, Dennis, Carl and Darrell McCorkle; and grandparents, Lawrence and Norma (Norton) Snyder, Bill Norton, and Harold and Mabel McCorkle.

Sharon is survived by her son, Mark Clelland of Fort Worth, TX; her daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Davis of Fort Worth, TX; her mother, Roma (Norton) McCorkle of Sabetha, KS; her brother, Jeff McCorkle of Fairview, KS; and her sister, Jeannie (McCorkle) Dyke of Sabetha, KS; and grandchildren, Kylie Gray, Ethan Davis, and Carrson Scott McCorkle Davis, which she adored. Sharon had a large and loving family consisting of many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that are family too.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, KS. Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be made at a later date and time.
