Gerianne Harrington, 66, Valley Falls, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at her home, with her loving family by her side.

She was born Mar. 14, 1951, at Topeka, the daughter of Edward A. and Elizabeth Ann Kammer Riedel. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1969 and from Old Town Barber College in Wichita in 2005.

Gerianne was a homemaker. She had operated Mother Goose Day Care, and had been a cook for USD 338. She worked alongside her husband, Dave, at their business, the Ideal Barber Shop in Atchison.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls and St. Mary’s Altar Society. She had served as a den leader for Boy Scouts and also Campfire Girls. Gerianne had coached girl’s softball, and had volunteered both at Birthright in Topeka, and at the Valley Falls Food Pantry. She was an aide at the USD 338 Community Learning Center Program. She enjoyed gardening, painting, and arts and crafts.

She married David Lee Harrington, April 28, 1973, at Valley Falls. He died July 1,
2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Ed Riedel.

Survivors include her son, Tim (Anne) Harrington, Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Laura (Jason) Kirkwood, Valley Falls, Beth (Jeff) Brown, Valley Falls, and Melody (Casey) Keirns, Nortonville; three sisters, Agnes (Wayne) Smithers, Ozawkie, Pat (Bill) Lederer, Lawrence, and Joleen (Bill) Morris, Glendale, AZ; sister-in-law, Alma Riedel, Gilbert, AZ; and nine grandchildren, Paige Clayton, Reagan Kirkwood, Korie Kirkwood, Lauren Brown, Lillian Brown, Connor Keirns, Jack Keirns, Dylan Keirns and Alexander Heinz-Harrington.

Mom valued her family above all else. She loved each and everyone of us deeply, especially her grandkids. She would do anything for them. She was an amazing wife to our Dad, an amazing mother to her children, and last but certainly not least, an amazing grandmother to her nine grandchildren. She will forever be loved and forever be missed by each and everyone of us.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Friday, at the church, followed by a visitation.
