Mary Helen Strube

Mary Helen Strube, 98 of rural Horton, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Horton Community Hospital.

She was born on October 23, 1919 on the family farm, south of Hiawatha, Kansas. The daughter of George and Susie (Berner)Weidman. Mary Helen attended Grand Prairie grade school and graduated from Powhattan High School in 1937.

Mary Helen was a homemaker and member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Powhattan, Kansas.

She lived all her life on the farm helping with milking, taking care of chickens. Mary Helen loved to garden, take care of her flowers, sew, crochet and in later years do word search puzzle. She always had cookies and a pot of coffee for whoever came to visit.

On October 14, 1941 she married Martin H. Strube in Hiawatha, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Don) Thompson of Conway Springs, Kansas and Connie (Ron) Snyder of Benbrook, Texas; two sons, Marvin (Joyce) Strube of Whiting, Kansas and Terry (Jeanie) Strube of Horton, Kansas; sister, Leila Wagoner of Hiawatha, Kansas; 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Lloyd, Clarence, Raymond, Glen and Robert.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will be at the Powhattan Cemetery.
