Charles Patrick Jewell, 85, of Mayetta, KS passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Topeka, KS. He was born March 23, 1932 in Lincoln, KS, the son of Charles Milton and Vaughn Hazel (McCormick) Jewell.

Charles attended schools in Lincoln and Farmington, KS. He was a longtime resident of Mayetta. He proudly served in United States Navy during the Korean Conflict; he served in Japan, China, Philippines and Korea. On June 25, 2000 he was awarded the 50 year South Korean pin from Randolph Air Force Base. In his early years he farmed and worked for Jackson County as a Road Grader Operator. He later worked for Lutz Construction and Wildcat Construction where he retired.

Charles was a member of the Mayetta Christian Church, Holton VFW Post #1367 and a member of the Holton American Legion Post #44.

Charles married Colene Watts on August 25, 1954 in Hiawatha, KS. They shared over 60 years of marriage before Colene passed away on May 11, 2015. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters Katherine McGee, Carrie Schroeder, Nellie Coloff, and Ruth Ann Hittle and 5 brothers, Denny, Ray, Jim, John and Bill Jewell.

Survivors include 2 sisters; Vaughn Kreider of Horton, KS, and Mildred Traphagen of Hoyt, KS; 5 children; Patsy Jewell of Mayetta, KS, Paula Henry of Hoyt, KS, Mike Jewell (Cindy) of Mayetta, KS, Penny Hegemann (David) of Mayetta, KS and Charles Jewell (Lee) of Mayetta, KS; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service with Military Honors will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment will follow in the Mayetta Cemetery. Family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Charles Jewell Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date to the VA Hospital in Topeka c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
