Adella Marie Bierbaum, 71, Atchison, Kansas died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Celebration of Life services will be March 31, 2018 at the V.F.W. Post #1175 in Atchison, from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Wendy Van Houtan officiating. The Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home has been entrusted with final care. Complete obituary at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Adella was born July 11, 1946 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Frederick Matthias and Jeanne Tisdahl Bierbaum.  She attented Lancaster Elementary and Fairground Elementary Schools, graduating in 1964 from Benton High School, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Adella became a licensed pratical nurse and served at Holly’s Nursing Home in Atchison, Kansas, she then became employed at Golden Age Lodge in Leavenworth, Kansas.  In 1977 she moved to California and became a licensed administrator at Fullerton Care in Fullerton, California.  In 1993 she returned to Atchison where she served as an administrator for the Atchison Medicalodge until 1997.  She then went to work for the Huntley Corporation at Kansas City International Airport in security and then worked at Golden Eagle Casino as a cage cashier and security until her retirement in 2001.

Adella was a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary at Post #1175 of Atchison and a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Atchison.

Survivors include her longtime companion, Dennis VanHoutan, Atchison, KS; a son, Salvador (Kayla) Leanos, Wichita, KS; a daughter, Gipsy (Jim) Boone, St. Joseph, MO; three brothers, Jay (Wilma) Bierbaum, St. Joseph, Mo; Charles Bierbaum, St. Joseph, MO; Pat (Rita) Boyer, Joplin, MO; three sisters, Carolyn Schindler, Joplin, MO; Jerri Bierbaum, Joplin, MO; Lona (Larry) Wallace, Pittsburg, KS; and six grandchildren, son-in-law, Daryl Mabrey, Hiawatha, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild London Koelliker and a daughter Rosie Mabrey.
