Richard Paul Cotton
( January 06, 1933 - July 10, 2018 )

Richard Cotton, 85, went to be with his Lord on July 10, 2018. 

He was born in Horton, Kansas the son of Paul and Hazel McCourt Cotton on January 6, 1933. He attended St. Leo’s Catholic School grades 1 to 8 and graduated from Horton High School in May, 1951. Richard graduated from Peru State College in 1956. He married Marty Allan on July 20, 1957.

Richard, known to many as “Coach,” was elected into the Wyoming Coaches Hall of Fame in 1992 for his work in high school basketball, track and cross country. He was an original inductee into the Highland Community College Hall of Fame as a track athlete in 1997. His career consisted of coaching and teaching from 1956 to 1998 and continued coaching for 8 additional years.

Richard and Marty moved to Sandpiper Bay in Wichita, Kansas in 2015. Richard passed away there and will be missed by his family.

Richard is survived by his wife Marty Cotton; three children Beth Cotton, Mark (Kimberly) Cotton, and Brent (Janet) Cotton; niece Stephanie; and 5 grandchildren, Resa-Marie (Greg), Anthony, Taylor, Cameron and Elle. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Sue Cotton.

Funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Burial will follow at the St. Leo’ Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Richard Cotton memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
