James "Jim" Arms

James “Jim” E. Arms, 66, of Humboldt, Nebraska was born on August 29, 1951 in Boscobel, Wisconsin to Eldon and Lois (Schofield) Arms.  He attended school in Boscobel and came from a large family that taught him the value of hard work at a young age.  After serving in the military, he met the love of his life, Judie Chapman.  The couple were married on March 15,1973 and Jim supported his family by rebuilding windmills in his father’s business along with several other jobs. Jim was a devoted husband and dad. He loved his wife and all of his children more than anything.  Over the years, Jim and Judie had four children and thirty-three foster children.  Jim and Judie believed “every child can be loved.” Judie passed away on April 3, 2018.  Jim lived his life to the end with the title “He-man” from his children.  He was the strongest man in their world.  

Jim passed away at the home of his oldest daughter on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, with his children and family at his side having reached the age of sixty-six years, ten months, and five days.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Judie Arms, parents Eldon and Lois Arms, brothers Donald and David Arms, a sister Judy Haberkorn, brothers-in-law William Haberkorn and Dennis Friederick, father-in-law Ben Chapman, mother-in-law Rose Allen.

Jim is survived by his daughters: Christy Otero and husband Jacob of Humboldt, NE; Becky Lindsey and husband Lonnie of Humboldt, NE; sons: Donald Arms and wife Amy of Auburn, NE; Louis Arms and fiancé Alyssa Bruce of Humboldt, NE; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, brothers: Jack Arms and wife Cheryl of Mesa, AZ; Roger Arms of Green Bay, WI; sisters: Jeanna Grubes and husband George of Montfort, WI; June London and husband Larry of Platteville, WI; Sue Friederik of Fennimore, WI; Debby Schmidt of Lone Rock, WI; brothers-in-law: Mike Chapman, Frank Allan and James Alan, sisters-in-law Cheryl McWilliams and Kathy Gosser, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at The Christian Church in Humboldt, Nebraska with Jack Arms officiating.

A register book will be available to sign from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on July 20, 2018, at The Wherry Mortuary in Humboldt.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
