Lila J. Mercer, 86, Atchison, Kansas died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Atchison Senior Village surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at First Christian Church with Rev. Matt Broxterman officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Friday, July 20th from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, with whom the final care has been entrusted. Lila was born July 6, 1932, in Garison, Kansas, the daughter of David and Viana (Kenworthy) Sinclair. She was raised in Wheaton, Kansas, until moving with her father to Effingham, Kansas, following the death of her mother in 1945. She attended Effingham Elementary and graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1950.

She and Roy A. Mercer were united in marriage on June 23, 1950 at First Christian Church in Atchison, Kansas. Mr. Mercer preceded her in death on June 12, 2018.

Lila served as a seamstress at the Atchison Mop Factory until her retirement in 1990.

She was an active member and participant of First Christian Church and served as a former Deaconess now a Deaconess Emeritus.

Lila is survived by two sons, William (Dorothy) Mercer, Polo, MO; Roy Dean (Sheri) Mercer, Atchison, KS; two daughters, Debbie (Ronald) Buntin, St. Joseph, MO; Rhonda (Bill) Shell, Atchison, KS; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Mary Katherine Sinclair and Elizabeth Winchell, and a brother David H. Sinclair.
