Constance “Connie” Sue Dugan Lawson

Constance “Connie” Sue Dugan Lawson, 73, Leavenworth, Kansas, formerly of Atchison, Kansas, joined our Lord and Savior on Monday, July 23, 2018 at her home.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral. Burial will follow at Doniphan Cemetery, Doniphan, Kansas. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Ashley Community Faith Church, Ashley, Illinois and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Connie was born July 20, 1945, in Linton, Indiana, the daughter of Clifford Dugan I and BillyAnna (Poe) Dugan, Forbis. She graduated from Vandalia Illinois High School, attended Cosmetology school in Effingham, Illinois and received an Associates Degree in Youth Correction. She was a correctional officer for 36 years, having worked in McAlester, Oklahoma, at the Lansing Correctional Facility and the Atchison Juvenile Facility. Connie was a member of Byington #177 Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed writing children’s books. She was also a founding member of the Ashley Community of Faith Church in Ashley, Ilinois.

Connie married Lester M. Lawson on January 4, 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, Illinois; he preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2004. Survivors include two sons, Lester Lawson, Leavenworth, Kansas, Carl-David Poe Lawson I and his wife, Tammy Lynn, Lansing, Kansas, daughter, Yvonne and her husband, Bobby Mathis, Leavenworth, Kansas, two brothers, Clifford and Carylon Dugan II, Jasper, Indiana and Cevin and Mary Dugan, Ashley, Illinois, ten grandchildren; April Yvonne Cecil, Samantha Ann Lawson, Carl-David Poe Lawson II, Jerrit Marion Gould, Aracely Skye Garcia, Benito Jeronimo Garcia, Sara Nichole Bonnett, Bret Aaron Peoples and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandmother, Leon Tine Densmore and a daughter, Katrina Lawson Garcia.
