Rita Mary (Fischer) Bernasek, 76, of Beattie, Kan., died August 19, 2018 at her home after losing her battle with cancer.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.

A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Beattie.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 24 at St. Malachy's Catholic Church.  Father Nathan Haverland will officiate.

The pallbearers will be Ian Skalla, Jonathan Fulton, Joe Studer, Jeff Lierz, Rob Olmsted and Shane Beachler.

The honorary pallbearers will be Joe Shaughnessy, Bob Goodwin, Cody Arroyo, and Carlos A. Arroyo.

Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Axtell.

Rita was born August 28, 1941 at Frankfort, Kan., to Leo and Elsie (Anders) Fischer. She attended schools in  Axtell and Frankfort and earned her LPN Nursing Degree at Atchison Vo-tech. She worked in several area hospitals and nursing homes. After working as a nurse, she later managed the Axtell Cafe before retiring in 2003. Rita's passions including cooking, crocheting and dairy farming.

On September 18, 1971, she married Duane Bernasek at Axtell.  He survives.  Other survivors include three daughters, Anita Pearson, Fairbury, Neb., Lisa Skalla, Marysville, Kan., and Tammy Skalla, Summerfield, Kan.; along with twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
