Allen V. Meyer 82, of rural Hiawatha, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Tuesday August 21, 2018 at Maple Heights Nursing Home.

Allen was born at Hamlin, Kansas March 1, 1936 to the late Arnold F. and Mable C. (Meyerholtz) Meyer. He grew up and attended grade school in Hamlin till 1946 at which time his family moved south of Hiawatha where they farmed. Allen graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1954 and then attended Kansas State for a year before returning to Brown County where he farmed, raised livestock and operated a dairy. He served for 8 years with Headquarters Battery Battalion of the Kansas Army National Guard in Hiawatha, discharged at the rank of E 5.

Mr. Meyer was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1946 and in later years became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, where he was very faithful in attending Sunday School and Church. Allen held various offices in the Church through the years.

Allen married Mary E. Fish, June 9, 1957 in Emporia. She helped Allen on the farm until she had a stroke in 1999 at which time she was partially paralyzed causing her to be confined to the nursing home. She passed away April 21, 2009.

Survivors include dear friends Troy and Robyn Kolb family; sister in law Eleanor “Ann” Smith; cousins: Rick, Rod, Doug, Wes, Jeeper, Matt Meyer, Rose Newman, and Sandy Howes.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. Pastors Sean Kilgo and Michael Dunaway will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Hiawatha Cemetery.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 9am till 6pm Friday. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services at Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church Playground Fund, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., Hiawatha 66434.
