Harlin Dale Scarlett, 91, of Topeka, KS passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the Plaza West Health Center in Topeka, KS. He was born March 29, 1927 in Denison, KS the son of Harold and Grace (Ferrell) Scarlett.

          Harlin graduated from Valley Falls High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1952.

          Harlin worked most of his life in the construction field; where he worked for Taft & Donaldson Construction, Carson Construction and Clements Construction Companies. He also worked for Steinmetz Service, Quality Oil and DX Services all in Valley Falls. He was a member of the Labor Union Local 142, 7th Day Adventist Church, Valley Falls United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3084 where he served as the post commander from 1960-1962 and post quarter commander from 1963-64.

Harlin was united in marriage to Louise Haley on July 18, 1949 in Bentonville, Arkansas. They shared over 67 years of marriage before Louise passed away on October 3, 2016. He is survived by his daughter, Karen McConnell of Lecompton, KS and a son Terry Scarlett (Deborah) of Valley Falls, KS; three sisters, Anita Greham of Meriden, KS, Leota “Dodie” Bolz of Topeka, KS and Helen (Hoot) Gibson of Rapid City, S.D.; three brothers, Marlin Scarlett of Sabetha, KS, Gary Scarlett (Kay) of Topeka, KS and John Scarlett (Sandy) of Wellsville, KS; six grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

          He was preceded in death by a son Mitchell Scarlett; four sisters, Neola Risinger, Arlene Gier, Marilyn Kesinger and Jane Etzel; two brothers, DeVere and Everett Scarlett; and a son-in-law Richard McConnell.
