Joe Barnes, 87, of Holton, died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Holton Community Hospital.

He was born February 23, 1931 on the farm, south of Holton, the son of Russell and Aileen Pollock Barnes.  He graduated from Holton High School in 1949.

Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was a combat veteran and paratrooper in the Korean War.

He was member of the First Christian Church in Holton.

Joe had worked as a mechanic for Mosby-Mack Ford and later for Laird Noller Ford in Topeka for a total of forty-five years.    

He married Annette Biswell on December 31, 1967 at the Central Presbyterian Church in Topeka.  She survives, of the home.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Patrice Jo Barnes, who died in infancy, and a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Alma Jean Barnes.

Other survivors include two sons, Jason Barnes, his wife Lori, and their children, Jacee and Jake, all of Holton, and Joe Barnes, Jr., his wife Carol, and their children, Joe Barnes, III and Chad, Des Moines, IA and Nicole Karr and husband Dustin, Topeka; two daughters, Debbie Barnes-Waylan, her son William Mabry and daughter Simone Anderson and husband Paul, all of Topeka, and Pam Webb and her husband Mike, San Jacinto, CA, and their children, Waylan Webb and April, St. Louis, and Danielle Ryder and husband Adam, San Jacinto, CA and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 9th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Holton Cemetery.  Joe will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home where family and friends will meet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
