Edith L. Kurtz, 95, Atchison, KS, passed away Friday, October 05, 2018 at the Highland Healthcare and Rehab, Highland, KS.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Matt Broxterman officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.  Family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the funeral home.  Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Edith was born February 4, 1923 in Bendena, KS, the daughter of Alta T. and Florence (Jones) Foster. She graduated from Bendena High School in 1941.  Edith worked for Lockwood’s as a bookbinder for five years, wall papered and did upholstery for many years and was seamstress until she was ninety-three, having done the sewing for the Atchison Police Department uniforms and Benedictine Ravens Football uniforms.  Edith was a member of the First Christian Church, the Rachel and Rebecca group at the church; she was church greeter, made the banners for the church and organized funeral dinners.  Edith enjoyed making beautiful quilts, jigsaw puzzles, word games and was a sports fanatic, especially BC Ravens football and basketball.  She also was a fan of KU basketball, Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.

Edith married Andrew “Mick” Kurtz on August 25, 1944; he preceded her in death on November 23, 1993.  Survivors include a son Ron Kurtz, Atchison, KS, two daughters, Sandra Kurtz, Independence, MO, Patricia Wilson, Atchison, KS, a sister Geneva Dunster, Atchison, KS, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren,  four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Frances Reynolds, Betty Kirkham and Sara Tilbury, and a great grandson, Josh Haley.
