Dale Lance

Dale Lance, 96, of Fairview, passed away October 10, 2018, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.

He was born August 2, 1922, at Morrill, one of three sons of James and Verna Kanter Lance.

He married Thelma McGeeney, February 14, 1947. Dale retired from the Fairview Farmer’s State Bank in December 1991. Dale and Thelma spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona for many years after retirement. They also lived in Topeka, KS, Denver, and Cortez, CO during their married years.

Dale was a World War II veteran and earned the “Soldiers Medal”. He served with the 9th Air Force until October 1945, when he was discharged at the rank of staff sergeant. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Kenneth and Orville, and son Larry In 2012.

Survivors include his wife Thelma; daughter Debra Conley, granddaughter Jamie Palmer, grandson J.D.; daughter in law Emily; five great-grandchildren: Henry and Ava Palmer, Jonathan, Reece, and Mathew Lance.

A Celebration of Dale’s life is planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 15, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha, with Shane Spangler officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, with military honors a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon until 6 p.m. Sunday and until time of service Monday.
