Ruth Caton, 90, of Hiawatha, died Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2018, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha where she had been a resident since November 2016.

Ruth was born at Dighton, Kansas, December 30, 1927, one of three daughters of Fred and Lila Jeffries Stone.  She grew up at Dighton and attended schools there.  She followed her sister and her husband to Brown County and has made Hiawatha her home since.  Ruth worked at Carpenter’s Drug Store, downtown Hiawatha for several years behind the soda fountain counter. In later years, she worked as a nurse aide for Oak Ridge Acres and Tri County Manor of Horton, before retiring.

Ruth was a lifetime member of the ladies auxiliary to VFW Post #5210, of Hiawatha.  She enjoyed collecting owls.

She married Paul Raymond Schober October 16, 1949 at Hiawatha.  He died August 14, 1981.  She later married Willard “Rip” Caton July 4, 1982.  He died March 26, 2001.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter Diana in 1950; two sisters:  Elda Pinkston and Pauline Stevens.

Survivors include a son Ryan Schober (Sandy) of Silver Lake, KS; and a nieces and nephews.

Private inurnment will be at the Powhattan Cemetery next to her husband Paul.
